Boy Scout
I mentioned Dr. Shinpei Goto on yesterday’s blog entry. He was a doctor, a politician, and the first President of Scout Association of Japan.
There are 2 groups in Tsukuba.
A Japanese astronaut Mr. Soichi Noguchi is known for being a Boy Scout. Also, about two-thirds of NASA's astronauts are Boy/Girl Scouts!
BTW, girls haven’t been able to join the Boy Scout in the US. But BSA will start accepting girls in Cub Scouts from this year.
On the other hand, girls have been accepted to Boy Scout in Japan since 1995.
If you are interested, I recommend you to try out for both groups. Since we’re in Tsukuba where there are a lot of researchers, I’m sure there are some leaders (volunteers) who speak English.
